Somerset Maugham (1874-1965)
was one of the World's most famous novelists and short story writers
of the early 20th century.
He has had more works (98) adapted for film and TV
than any other author.
His novels also chronicled the last days of colonialism.
He also loved Grand Hotels, in particular the
Grand Hotel du Cap on the Cap Ferrat,
Hotel de Paris in Monaco,
Hotel Metropole in Hanoi,
Hotel Le Royal in Phnom Penh
Raffles Hotel in Signapore
His Novels are very amusing, a bit cynical,
they often ridiculize the High Society
and many times they turn around
Sommerset's favorite Hotels.
